Military Style Jacket

This awesome jacket is a Christmas gift from my loving parents that has been hanging out at our friend's house for the past two months. I accidentally left it in Houston when we left after Christmas and our family friend brought it to her daughter's house for us. We were a little late getting over there to pick it up, but with our trip to Colorado around the corner, we finally made our way to retrieve the jacket. I wore it out the next night to celebrate my Hubby's birthday with him and I got so many compliments! I really do love this jacket, it is so form fitting, flattering, and quite unique. I got a ton of use out of it in the mountains as well, and, even though spring is around the corner, I plan on getting a bit more life out of it before I pack it away for next winter.

Tasty Thursday: Sauteed Cabbage and Kale with Garlic and Shallot

Hello again! Today I have for you a super simple sauteed veggie recipe that I really think you will enjoy. My friend Lindsey told me a while ago that she had been sauteing green cabbage for breakfast with her eggs and that she had fell in love with it. I wasn't sold, until her mother in law Susan made some for us with kale and garlic at their lake house. I thought it was incredible! I decided to try it on my own and even Travis liked it. It is tasty not only as a side dish, but on tacos or a sandwich it is a fab addition. I am planning on putting it on some sausages tonight as a garlic krout rather then sour krout. I hope you enjoy this dish!

Sauteed Green Cabbage and Kale with Garlic and Shallot

 Ingredients:

  • 1/2 head of green cabbage, sliced thinly
  • 6 leaves of dinosaur kale, sliced thinly
  • 1 large shallot, sliced thinly
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

 Directions:

Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add your oil. After the oil has heated for a few seconds, add all your veggies. Saute until slightly golden brown. Serve and enjoy!

Belted Cardi

Today I have for you a casual and comfortable look I wore about a week ago on a typical lazy Sunday.  The Hubs and I were busy running some last minute errands before our trip up to the mountains. I wanted to be comfortable, but still look classy while we shopped around. I love belting cardigans because not only does it give you a flattering waist, but it can completely change a look. It seems to pull everything together and dresses up a casual outfit so easily. As you may have noticed, I wear mostly neutrals and blue tones because they go well with my skin tone and eye color, and I am not typically that big into prints. I think that is why when I am attracted to a print, it is a simple stripe like on this cardigan and in colors that I am already fairly comfortable with. I have loved this cardigan all fall and winter, and I think it will transition well into spring because of the sleeve length. I hope you enjoy this easy outfit!

Trips With Friends

Hello again! So sorry for my little hiatus from the blog last week but the Hubs and I were vacationing with friends in the beautiful Winter Park, Colorado! It was so relaxing and fun to spend Travis' birthday surrounded by people that we love and such breathtaking scenery. Travis and the guys had such an awesome time snowboarding, while the girls and the kiddos hung back at the house the first few days. Most of the girls, including myself, decided to get on the mountain on Friday. Sadly though, I only got to hit the ski slopes one day because I took a nasty spill and sprained my knee! Luckily, ski patrol helped me down the rest of the way. It was pretty embarrassing at first but the guys helping me out were so nice and did everything they could to keep me laughing. I've been busy icing and hobbling around the past few days but I feel like my knee is improving and Travis and all our sweet friends were so helpful taking care of me. I cannot thank them enough!

I hope you all had an amazing weekend and I'll to you again tomorrow!

Happy 22nd To My Bro

Hello again! I wanted to take time today to talk about someone very special to me, my little brother Michael. It is his 22nd birthday today and I just want to wish for him the best birthday yet!

Michael,

It is such an honor to be your sister and beyond great to have such an awesome guy for a little bro. I am so proud of all the choices you have made over the years. It has been so fun watching you grow from a baby into a young man and it's so hard to believe your college graduation is just around the corner. I adore being your sister and I love you so much! Have an amazing birthday Mike!!!

Happy Birthday Mike!!!

Valentine's Day 2014

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I am so excited for a date night with the Hubs tonight, even though we are planning on keeping it pretty casual. I enjoy taking a day to reflect on our love for each other and celebrate just the two of us. Travis' birthday is actually this Tuesday so we are doing a nicer dinner this weekend to celebrate that wonderful holiday instead. We have to make a shopping pit stop in a nearby Dallas suburb (Plano) to pick up some specialty rain gear for a fishing trip Trav is going on later this year with his father. There is this awesome little place out there called "Whiskey Cake" that seriously has the best dessert either of us has ever tasted...whiskey cake! It is a delicious cake soaked in bourbon caramel sauce and covered with sugared nuts and all things good. It tastes like a little slice of heaven and I am counting down the days to have it again!

I wanted to do another dressy outfit especially for this holiday. Although this look doesn't necessarily scream Valentine's Day (I am not covered in red and pink and hearts) I do think it is appropriate for such an occasion. I did, however, add the pop of a fuchsia lip to help remind you of the traditional holiday colors. I hope you enjoy this look and have a wonderful day full of love!
