Hey guys! I have another recipe for you today, and this one is an easy, slow cooker recipe. I love making dinner in the slow cooker because it does most of the work for me and I come home from a hard day at the office to a lovely homemade meal. This particular recipe I adapted from Chef-In-Training, not changing it much. I added a bit of a kick because the Hubs likes things spicy. I also served this over brown short grain rice and the broccoli from my last Tasty Tuesday. I hope you enjoy this crock pot favorite of mine!
Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken
- 2 - 2 1/2 pounds if chicken ( I did a mix of boneless skinless thighs and breasts)
- 1 cup of honey
- 1/2 cup of soy sauce
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 4 tablespoons of ketchup
- 2 tablespoons of canola oil
- 1 tablespoon of sriracha hot sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
- 4 teaspoons of cornstarch
- 6 tablespoons of water
- sesame seeds for garnish
- salt and pepper
Trim the fat off the chicken and season both sides with salt and pepper. Place the chicken in the bottom of your crock pot. Add the diced onions and minced garlic to the crockpot, over top of the chicken. In a bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, sriracha, ketchup, canola oil, and red pepper flakes. Add the sauce to the slow cooker, coating all of the chicken and veggies. Cook on high for 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours or on low from 3 - 4. Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and chop into bite sized pieces. In a separate bowl, dissolve the cornstarch into the 6 tablespoons of water and add to the crockpot to thicken the sauce. Add the chopped chicken back in and cook for an additional 10 minutes on high. Remove from the slow cooker, garnish with sesame seeds, serve over rice and enjoy!
