Makeup Monday: Foundation Favorites

Hey friends! So it has come to my attention that my one year blogging anniversary is quickly approaching! As sort of a "One Year Resolution" I've decided to set a new weekly blogging schedule to keep up with you all a bit better then I have been this past year. The schedule is as follows:

Monday -
A "Makeup Monday" post discussing or reviewing some of my favorite products,  new makeup looks, tips, tricks, techniques, and possible tutorials

Tuesday -
A "Tasty Tuesday" post with a recipe off the day

Wednesday -
An outfit of the day post

Thursday -
A "Beauty Thursday" post discussing and reviewing beauty products like skincare, haircare, and body care.

Friday -
An outfit of the day post

Saturday and Sunday will most likely be my "blogging days off" unless I have something special to share with you all

Let me know what you all think of the new schedule in the comments below please!

So for my first Makeup Monday post I wanted to talk about my favorite foundations. I have acquired a small collection over the past year, and I tend to like different ones for different reasons. I am not necessarily advising that you go out and buy them all, but you can judge my reviews on each to decide if any will work for your skin. I personally have combination skin that is extremely sensitive and mildly acne prone. I tend to be oily in my T zone and the rest of my face is very dry and a bit flaky at times.

The first foundation I want to discuss is the one I use on most workdays, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Foundation. Here is what Sephora describes it as:

"A long-lasting foundation powered by Amazonian clay. Get 12 hours of flawless coverage with this long-wearing, skin-perfecting formula with UVA/UVB SPF 15. It's full coverage with a weightless texture. With a broad range of shades available and a supremely blendable and buildable formula, everyone can achieve skin that looks healthy and natural. Whether oily, dry or combination, "skin-smart" Amazonian clay will intuitively adjust to meet and address your skin concerns for makeup that wears better, longer, and truer. This revolutionary foundation reduces the appearance of pores, discolorations, and imperfections and ensures a perfectly flawless complexion every time."

What I love most about this foundation is that it is all natural, so it is a perfect everyday foundation for my sensitive skin. It is a thicker, medium to full coverage foundation that dries to a matte finish. The Amazonian clay helps to control the oil in my T zone, but it also doesn't stick to my dry patches like most matte foundations tend to do. The coverage is great if you are having a bit of a breakout or suffer from redness. Also, it contains SPF 15 which is why I love it for the daytime because I walk to and from work. Although it claims to be a 12 hour foundation, I would say it lasts a solid 8 hours, but then I see it start to break up on my nose and chin. I wear shade Light Neutral.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-oily or combo skin
-acne prone skin
-sensitive skin
-those looking for a natural foundation
-those looking for a cruelty free foundation

I would not recommend this foundation if you need it to last longer then 8-10 hours, have extremely dry skin, or know you are going to take flash photography because the SPF can have a flash back effect in pictures and wash out your face.

My next foundation is my favorite foundation for special occasions, Estee Lauder Double Wear. Nordstrom describes it as:

"15-hour staying power for a flawless finish all day. The worry-free, long-wearing makeup stays fresh and looks natural through heat, humidity and nonstop activity. Won't change color, smudge or come off on clothes. Feels lightweight and comfortable. Now the flawless look you see in the morning is the look you keep all day. Oil-free. Fragrance-free."

What I love most about this foundation is its incredible lasting power. They say 15 hour wear and they mean it! This foundation also doesn't budge in the heat or humidity that we sometimes face here in Texas. It is a liquid foundation with medium coverage that is quite buildable. It dries to a semi-matte, natural looking finish. It tends to dry on your face very quickly, so you need to be fast when applying. This foundation works well when my skin is not breaking out. When it is, I need to add concealer to cover my blemishes completely. I believe it has SPF 8, which is too low to really cause any type of flashback in pictures. I also love to mix this foundation with others to lengthen their wear. (a great drugstore dupe for this foundation is the Revlon Colorstay liquid foundation for normal to dry skin, which is also my favorite drugstore foundation) I wear shade 2N1 Desert Beige.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-combo to dry skin
-acne prone skin
-sensitive skin
-those looking for a long wearing foundation
-those looking for a sweat-proof foundation

I would not recommend this foundation for people with extremely oily skin.

My next foundation is my favorite foundation for photography, Make Up Forever HD foundation. Sephora describes it as:

"An oil-free medium-to-full-coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life. This foundation creates a soft-focus effect, which is designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight. It leaves your complexion with such a flawless finish, it can withstand bright or harsh lighting."

What I love most about this foundation is how incredible it looks in photos. The soft-focus effect is brought to life and your skin looks flawless. It seems to bounce the light off your face perfectly. It is a liquid foundation with light to medium coverage. It dries to a satin finish, looking much like real skin. It contains no SPF, which is one of the many reasons it is so great in flash photography. I would say the foundation lasts a solid 6 hours before it starts to breakdown, however it does fade quite naturally making it not very noticeable. At one time I was using this as my every day foundation. I started to develop tiny under the skin bumps on my cheeks due to my skin's sensitivity, so I truly recommend this foundation only for special occasions, especially if you have sensitive skin. I wear shade 120 Soft Sand.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-combo to dry skin
-brides
-those looking for a photogenic foundation

I would not recommend this foundation for people with extremely oily skin or those looking for a full coverage foundation.

My next foundation is my favorite foundation for special occasions, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. Nordstrom describes it as:

"The tiniest drop of this new hybrid fluid creates a fresh, natural complexion. Skin looks refined and feels refreshed, creating an exquisite makeup experience. The fluid formula has a soft, water-light texture, and comes in 10 shades that match perfectly to skin's undertones, whether pink or beige. Dermatologist-tested. Noncomedogenic. Oil- free. Winner of Allure magazine’s ‘Best of Beauty’ award for Best Light Coverage Foundation, 2013."

What I love most about this foundation is how natural it looks on my skin. It gives such a flawless, lightweight finish, that I sometimes forget I am even wearing makeup. To me, it is like a BB cream but better! This was my go to foundation this summer anytime I was doing outdoor activities. It has SPF 15, which is just enough for day to day wear, but I would apply sunscreen as well when I knew I was to be outside longer. This is another foundation that tends to dry very quickly, so work fast when applying. Also, make sure you shake the container very well before applying or the product will separate. This foundation is extremely buildable. I find I have to apply two layers for my desired coverage, but it does not appear cakey at all. It dries to a very natural, skin like finish which is why I love it for those "no makeup" days. This foundation does contain alcohol, which is why I refrain from wearing it everyday. I wear shade 20 Beige.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-oily to combo skin
-acne prone skin
-sensitive skin
-those looking for a very lightweight foundation
-those new to foundation

I would not recommend this foundation for people with extremely dry skin.

My next foundation is my favorite foundation when my skin is acting up, Kat-Von-D Lock It Tattoo foundation. Sephora describes it as:

"A high-pigment foundation for full coverage with a long-lasting, beautiful finish. Kat created this foundation to provide exceptional coverage, without compromising a smooth, striking finish. Formulated with 21 percent pigment, this powerful formula was developed to match a broad range of skintones with bold coverage—the proprietary pigments can even effectively cover tattoos. The combination of raw materials and the best siliconic elastomers and siliconic esters provide 24-hour wear with transfer resistance. Natural polymers absorb oil for a matte, soft finish and the added emollients provide a velvety texture for perfectly smooth, hydrated skin."

This has been my most recent foundation discovery, and I have been wearing it almost exclusively for the past month. What I love most about this foundation is the incredible coverage and lasting power. It lasts as long as I keep it on, and the coverage is so incredible I find myself skipping concealer. The downside to this is that it can look cakey, so I recommend applying the tiniest possible amount (1-2 pumps) and spreading it VERY thinly across your entire face. Also, this foundation does not effect my sensitive skin and it also does not cause me to break out, which is amazing. It dries to a matte finish and does a great job controlling my oil. I do not find that it sticks to my dry patches either. It contains no SPF which makes it great for pictures as well. I wear shade Light 49.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-oily to combo skin
-acne prone skin
-sensitive skin
-those looking for a long wearing foundation
-those looking for a full coverage foundation

I would not recommend this foundation for people with extremely dry skin.
