Beauty Thursday: Lending A Helping Hand

Hello all! Today is a Beauty Thursday post about something very important that we tend to forget to care for, our hands! Even though they are probably our hardest working body part, they tend to be easily overlooked when it comes to our normal beauty routine. Especially during this time of year, our hands can become dry, cracked, and brittle...and that's why I am here to help. These two products will transform your hands from drab to fab in no time!

The first product is the Rodan + Fields Brightening Hand Treatment. It is formulated to relieve the discomfort associated with hand washing and the drying effects of the environment. It is packed with powerful, non-greasy moisturizers that sooth the skin, as well as brightening and anti-aging ingredients that improve wrinkles and lighten dark spots

The second product is a must have for dry, cracking knuckles, the Rodan + Fields Age Shield Hand Balm. It is like a giant chap stick for your hands, nourishing them with pure vitamin C and protecting them from the sun with SPF 30. The balm also aids in reducing dark spots and firming the skin on your hands, preventing the tell tale signs of aging. It is perfect for on the go because you do not have to worry about it leaking in your bag. I tend to get extremely dry knuckles that can crack and bleed in the winter, and this balm really helps keep them soft and moist. I love it!!

Leather Pleats

Hello again and happy Wednesday! Yesterday was a very special day for the Hubs and I, our two year anniversary! We decided to lay low on social media about it in an effort to just enjoy each other, but I do have a few blurry pictures from last nights delicious dinner that I will be sure to share with you all sometime this week. Today I have for you a little outfit I wore to a recent baby shower. I love that I felt dressed up enough for the occasion, but still was extremely comfortable. I have been loving this faux leather skirt and I have been wearing it non stop! I feel that the cinched waist in combination with the wide pleats make it incredibly flattering. This chambray blazer and a simple T have been wardrobe staples of mine for a while. Throw on a pendant necklace and grab a cute colored bag and you are good to go! Hope you love this little look!

Tasty Tuesday: Baked Zucchini Cakes

Hello all! I wanted to share with you this Tasty Thursday recipe post. I am always in search of new side dishes that will get my sweet Hubby to eat more vegetables. I recently stumbled across this recipe from Skinny Taste and decided to give it a go. I did not have a mini muffin tin, so I doubled the recipe and used a regular sized tin (if you do have a mini muffin tin, then you can cut my recipe in half). I have to say, they turned out pretty delicious. Crispy on top but almost like a potato pancake in the center, without the fat of frying! The egg and cheese in them make them even great for breakfast. I hope you enjoy these yummy zucchini cakes!

Baked Zucchini And Cheddar Cakes

Ingredients:

  • 2 large or 4 small zucchini, grated
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion, grated
  • 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • cooking spray

 Directions:

Preheat oven to 400°.  Spray a  muffin tin with cooking spray. Grate the zucchini into a strainer and wring out all excess water with a clean dish towel. This step is very important to achieve the desired crispiness on the outside. Wring all of the excess water out of the zucchini. In a medium bowl, combine all of the ingredients and season with salt and pepper to taste. Evenly distribute to the muffin tin pressing down to pack ingredients firmly. Bake for 16-18 minutes, or until the tops are golden. Use a  knife or small rubber spatula around the edges of each cake to remove them from the muffin tin. Eat and enjoy!!

Makeup Monday: Foundation Favorites

Hey friends! So it has come to my attention that my one year blogging anniversary is quickly approaching! As sort of a "One Year Resolution" I've decided to set a new weekly blogging schedule to keep up with you all a bit better then I have been this past year. The schedule is as follows:

Monday -
A "Makeup Monday" post discussing or reviewing some of my favorite products,  new makeup looks, tips, tricks, techniques, and possible tutorials

Tuesday -
A "Tasty Tuesday" post with a recipe off the day

Wednesday -
An outfit of the day post

Thursday -
A "Beauty Thursday" post discussing and reviewing beauty products like skincare, haircare, and body care.

Friday -
An outfit of the day post

Saturday and Sunday will most likely be my "blogging days off" unless I have something special to share with you all

Let me know what you all think of the new schedule in the comments below please!

So for my first Makeup Monday post I wanted to talk about my favorite foundations. I have acquired a small collection over the past year, and I tend to like different ones for different reasons. I am not necessarily advising that you go out and buy them all, but you can judge my reviews on each to decide if any will work for your skin. I personally have combination skin that is extremely sensitive and mildly acne prone. I tend to be oily in my T zone and the rest of my face is very dry and a bit flaky at times.

The first foundation I want to discuss is the one I use on most workdays, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Foundation. Here is what Sephora describes it as:

"A long-lasting foundation powered by Amazonian clay. Get 12 hours of flawless coverage with this long-wearing, skin-perfecting formula with UVA/UVB SPF 15. It's full coverage with a weightless texture. With a broad range of shades available and a supremely blendable and buildable formula, everyone can achieve skin that looks healthy and natural. Whether oily, dry or combination, "skin-smart" Amazonian clay will intuitively adjust to meet and address your skin concerns for makeup that wears better, longer, and truer. This revolutionary foundation reduces the appearance of pores, discolorations, and imperfections and ensures a perfectly flawless complexion every time."

What I love most about this foundation is that it is all natural, so it is a perfect everyday foundation for my sensitive skin. It is a thicker, medium to full coverage foundation that dries to a matte finish. The Amazonian clay helps to control the oil in my T zone, but it also doesn't stick to my dry patches like most matte foundations tend to do. The coverage is great if you are having a bit of a breakout or suffer from redness. Also, it contains SPF 15 which is why I love it for the daytime because I walk to and from work. Although it claims to be a 12 hour foundation, I would say it lasts a solid 8 hours, but then I see it start to break up on my nose and chin. I wear shade Light Neutral.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-oily or combo skin
-acne prone skin
-sensitive skin
-those looking for a natural foundation
-those looking for a cruelty free foundation

I would not recommend this foundation if you need it to last longer then 8-10 hours, have extremely dry skin, or know you are going to take flash photography because the SPF can have a flash back effect in pictures and wash out your face.

My next foundation is my favorite foundation for special occasions, Estee Lauder Double Wear. Nordstrom describes it as:

"15-hour staying power for a flawless finish all day. The worry-free, long-wearing makeup stays fresh and looks natural through heat, humidity and nonstop activity. Won't change color, smudge or come off on clothes. Feels lightweight and comfortable. Now the flawless look you see in the morning is the look you keep all day. Oil-free. Fragrance-free."

What I love most about this foundation is its incredible lasting power. They say 15 hour wear and they mean it! This foundation also doesn't budge in the heat or humidity that we sometimes face here in Texas. It is a liquid foundation with medium coverage that is quite buildable. It dries to a semi-matte, natural looking finish. It tends to dry on your face very quickly, so you need to be fast when applying. This foundation works well when my skin is not breaking out. When it is, I need to add concealer to cover my blemishes completely. I believe it has SPF 8, which is too low to really cause any type of flashback in pictures. I also love to mix this foundation with others to lengthen their wear. (a great drugstore dupe for this foundation is the Revlon Colorstay liquid foundation for normal to dry skin, which is also my favorite drugstore foundation) I wear shade 2N1 Desert Beige.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-combo to dry skin
-acne prone skin
-sensitive skin
-those looking for a long wearing foundation
-those looking for a sweat-proof foundation

I would not recommend this foundation for people with extremely oily skin.

My next foundation is my favorite foundation for photography, Make Up Forever HD foundation. Sephora describes it as:

"An oil-free medium-to-full-coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life. This foundation creates a soft-focus effect, which is designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight. It leaves your complexion with such a flawless finish, it can withstand bright or harsh lighting."

What I love most about this foundation is how incredible it looks in photos. The soft-focus effect is brought to life and your skin looks flawless. It seems to bounce the light off your face perfectly. It is a liquid foundation with light to medium coverage. It dries to a satin finish, looking much like real skin. It contains no SPF, which is one of the many reasons it is so great in flash photography. I would say the foundation lasts a solid 6 hours before it starts to breakdown, however it does fade quite naturally making it not very noticeable. At one time I was using this as my every day foundation. I started to develop tiny under the skin bumps on my cheeks due to my skin's sensitivity, so I truly recommend this foundation only for special occasions, especially if you have sensitive skin. I wear shade 120 Soft Sand.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-combo to dry skin
-brides
-those looking for a photogenic foundation

I would not recommend this foundation for people with extremely oily skin or those looking for a full coverage foundation.

My next foundation is my favorite foundation for special occasions, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. Nordstrom describes it as:

"The tiniest drop of this new hybrid fluid creates a fresh, natural complexion. Skin looks refined and feels refreshed, creating an exquisite makeup experience. The fluid formula has a soft, water-light texture, and comes in 10 shades that match perfectly to skin's undertones, whether pink or beige. Dermatologist-tested. Noncomedogenic. Oil- free. Winner of Allure magazine’s ‘Best of Beauty’ award for Best Light Coverage Foundation, 2013."

What I love most about this foundation is how natural it looks on my skin. It gives such a flawless, lightweight finish, that I sometimes forget I am even wearing makeup. To me, it is like a BB cream but better! This was my go to foundation this summer anytime I was doing outdoor activities. It has SPF 15, which is just enough for day to day wear, but I would apply sunscreen as well when I knew I was to be outside longer. This is another foundation that tends to dry very quickly, so work fast when applying. Also, make sure you shake the container very well before applying or the product will separate. This foundation is extremely buildable. I find I have to apply two layers for my desired coverage, but it does not appear cakey at all. It dries to a very natural, skin like finish which is why I love it for those "no makeup" days. This foundation does contain alcohol, which is why I refrain from wearing it everyday. I wear shade 20 Beige.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-oily to combo skin
-acne prone skin
-sensitive skin
-those looking for a very lightweight foundation
-those new to foundation

I would not recommend this foundation for people with extremely dry skin.

My next foundation is my favorite foundation when my skin is acting up, Kat-Von-D Lock It Tattoo foundation. Sephora describes it as:

"A high-pigment foundation for full coverage with a long-lasting, beautiful finish. Kat created this foundation to provide exceptional coverage, without compromising a smooth, striking finish. Formulated with 21 percent pigment, this powerful formula was developed to match a broad range of skintones with bold coverage—the proprietary pigments can even effectively cover tattoos. The combination of raw materials and the best siliconic elastomers and siliconic esters provide 24-hour wear with transfer resistance. Natural polymers absorb oil for a matte, soft finish and the added emollients provide a velvety texture for perfectly smooth, hydrated skin."

This has been my most recent foundation discovery, and I have been wearing it almost exclusively for the past month. What I love most about this foundation is the incredible coverage and lasting power. It lasts as long as I keep it on, and the coverage is so incredible I find myself skipping concealer. The downside to this is that it can look cakey, so I recommend applying the tiniest possible amount (1-2 pumps) and spreading it VERY thinly across your entire face. Also, this foundation does not effect my sensitive skin and it also does not cause me to break out, which is amazing. It dries to a matte finish and does a great job controlling my oil. I do not find that it sticks to my dry patches either. It contains no SPF which makes it great for pictures as well. I wear shade Light 49.

I think this foundation would work best for people with:

-oily to combo skin
-acne prone skin
-sensitive skin
-those looking for a long wearing foundation
-those looking for a full coverage foundation

I would not recommend this foundation for people with extremely dry skin.

Best Spent Minute In Skincare

Ok guys, so I have some exciting news! Rodan & Fields is about to celebrate the re-release of their best selling product system at 10:00 a.m. PDT tomorrow to PC's (preferred customers) and will be available permanently for retail sales January 2014. The retail price of the system is $200.00, but the with the special PC offer, tomorrow's price will be $156.00! The skin care system is comprised of two things,  the AMP MD™ tool and the Night Renewing Serum.  The system is an additional part to the Redefine Regimen. All Rodan & Fields products are based on a philosophy of Multi-Med® Therapy—using the right medicines and active cosmetics, in the right formulations, in the right order.  The patent-pending AMP MD™is a non-invasive, skincare roller clinically proven to safely and effectively exfoliate the uppermost layer of the skin. It contains 200 surgical grade stainless steel acupuncture-type needles that slightly puncture the top layer of your skin allowing products to seep into the deeper layers, essentially making the products work quicker and more effectively. The AMP also helps train your skin to heal faster by slightly damaging it, causing cell turnover and colligen to increase and deep set wrinkles to fade. When used, it feels much like a cat's tongue, just a bit dry and rough, but using too much pressure is not recommended (it is also not recommended for people with VERY sensitive skin). It is to be used for ONE minute after face wash and toner, but before any creams or moisturizers are applied. Following the AMP MD™tool is the other part of the AMP MD™System, the Night Renewing Serum. This little blue capsule of amazingness is packed with retinol and other anti-aging medicines to combat wrinkles, soften, and quickly heal the skin you have just lightly punctured.

The AMP MD™ was the first tool the Dr. Rodan & Dr.  Fields created for their anti-aging line. Recognizing that this system not only works on wrinkles, but post acne marks and stretch marks, dermatologists started using it in their offices. Because of this, the FDA had to determine whether this was a medical device, or in fact a cosmetic device. While testing was going on, the doctors decided to discontinue sales of the AMP. Testing is now complete and the AMP has been declared a cosmetic device! YAY!!! (that means we can all use it, not just doctors)

I am personally so psyched for this release! I currently use the Night Renewing Serum as part of my new routine (which I have done faithfully for over a month now) and I have to say it is my absolute FAVORITE R&F product! Retinal, I find, works really well with my skin because it not only combats wrinkles by increasing cell turnover, it helps fight acne and fades my dark acne marks as well. Over the past month my skin has changed. It's gotten softer, much much clearer, and my post acne marks have faded tremendously. I cannot wait to see how much quicker my skin will respond to these products once I add in the "best spent minute in skin care" the AMP MD!!!!

The AMP MD System will be available at the discounted price of $156.00 only for R&F Preferred Customers tomorrow October 24th at 10:00 a.m. PDT through October 31st 11:59 p.m. PDT. In order to become a PC, you are required to purchase $80 worth of product BEFORE your AMP MD order, so the time to act is now! The System contains the reusable AMP MD roller, a two month supply of the Night Renewing Serum, a reusable Cleansing Vial and  a two month supply of the Purification Tablets. It is designed to work with the entire Redefine regimen, so that would be a smart first PC purchase. When using the products together, you will see in ONE month what would normally take SIX!!! That is how amazing this tool and system really is!

To sign up to be a PC to get your discounted AMP MD, click HERE. Remember, being a PC guarantees you a 10% discount on every order, free shipping on orders over $80, auto-ship every 60 days with a delay option for no penalty,  as well as full time access to the Rodan+Fields on staff nurses.

Below is the Redefine regimen lineup, including the Night Renewing and Lip Renewing Serums, that you would use in conjunction with the AMP MD.

Transition Time

Hello again my lovlies. I'm really trying hard to get back into the blogging swing of things because I have missed it so much! I really appreciate you all standing by me and reading this, you have no idea how much it means to me!

Today I have another outfit post for you all. It is a very confusing time of year here in Texas because it is starting to cool off, but we are all pretty skeptical that the heat of the summer really is over. This outfit contains pieces that easily transition your wardrobe from summer to fall. I love cardigans because they are so easy to throw on to combat a slight breeze, but you also are not sweating if it does warm up a bit. Technically, this skirts is winter white, but I really have no problem transitioning a bit of summer white into a fall wardrobe. Also, I have my trusty chambray button down on and I am so excited because you know how much I love the chambray trend, and is here to stay this season. I hope you enjoy this layered look and it helps give you ideas on how to dress during this transition time!

My New Business

Hello everyone and happy Monday. Today I wanted to share with you a recent business opportunity that I am now a part of. The wonderful doctors who created the Proactiv® Solution (arguably the best over the counter acne treatment out there) have entered the ever-growing world of anti-aging. The line is called Rodan+Fields and it was the top seller at Nordstrom’s until they pulled it for direct sales thinking word of mouth could grow their business faster.  They have four main product lines to aid any skin issue:

 Redefine
(for anti-age and their best seller)

 Reverse
(for sun damage and dark spots)

Sooth
(for sensitive skin and redness)

Unblemish
(for acne, specifically adult acne)

I have recently been testing out a few of there products and I am absolutely loving them! Now and again I will do some posts on specific product reviews so you can understand my thoughts and honest opinions. Not everyone has the same skin problems or skin type, so what I think is amazing may not work for you, and something that I don't particularly care for may be one of your Holy Grail staples. I personally like to use a mix of products from both the Redefine and Unblemished regimens. They truly have become some of my Holy Grail products and my skin has not been this soft and clear in a very long time.

I love how great the products are, but I also love that they are so easy to order.  It is all done online and shipped to your house within days. They also have a 60 day return policy where you can return any or all of your products for a full refund if you didn’t like them.  Empty bottles and all!  Great customer service!

Feel free to browse the products HERE and if you are interested in ordering, you may want to check out the link HERE for a 10% discount on every order, free shipping on orders over $80, as well as full time access to the Rodan+Fields on staff nurses. They can help with any questions you may have as well as any skin concerns or issues. Please email me if you have any additional questions, want help figuring out what to order, or just want to talk about it! There is a great tool HERE that will show you what will work best for your skin. Also see real results HERE and feel free to even google it on the internet and you will see how wonderful it is.  Don’t forget to check out the PC Perks (preferred customer) and Pricing, it really does make a difference with no risk!

Birthdays and New Blogs

Hello all! I know it's been a little while and I have not been a very good blogger, but I am here today! My life has been a little busy lately, we have been traveling to Houston a bit as well as having family visit us here and I've also started a new business venture that I am so excited to tell you all about, but a post will come later this week explaining that. Also, my two year wedding as well as my one year blogging anniversarys are both coming up, so lots to celebrate in the future but today we are celebrating something else!

Yesterday was my lovely mother-in-law's birthday! I have to say, I have truly been blessed with the best in-laws in the whole world! They have welcomed me and my family with open arms and loving hearts. Both our familys get along so well and it is such a blessing to have that, especially around the holiday season. So, to my lovely second mother I again wish you a happy birthday filled with joy, love, and lots of cake!!

Now for some other exciting news, one of my best friends Jenafer has just entered into the beauty blogging world! Her blog is called Jenaface and she will specialize in beauty and beauty product reviews. She is such a gorgeous girl, an amazing photographer, and and graphic designer so I just know her posts will be well thought out and her pictures spot on. Her first post is reviewing the Cover Girl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balms and she does an amazing job swatching the different colors and describing the wear of the product.
