Pillow Talk

How To Decorate Your Couch

Hello again! Thanks so much for reading. Today I would like to share with you all how I decorated my couch. When my husband and I finally moved in together almost everything in the apartment felt like a bachelor pad.He had this huge brown leather sectional that I knew I had to make more“homey.” With a few pillows and a nice blanket or throw, you can turn any sofa into a throne of comfort.

Here s a glimpse of our basic sofa. It is a great blank canvas to start with. It’s big and really comfortable, and the color is very neutral.

I start by adding a light colored throw on the arm of one side to break up the brown leather.

Then I add a large neutral pillow in a medium brown. I want the largest pillow to be lighter then the sofa, but not too far off from the brown.

Next I add a charcoal gray sweater pillow. The brown is a very “warm” color, so I wanted to bring in a “cool” color pillow and add a bit of texture.

Finally, I add a small lighter colored pillow with a thin red stripe in it, to add a bit of color to my neutral pallet.

You can mix and match all the pillows to create different effects, even add in a patterned one.  I hope you enjoyed my examples and it inspires you to dress up your couch a bit.

  1. Pillows and candles always make everything better don't they. Good thinking to break it all up.
